Talk time testing, for real

We've talked 45 phones to their end

It has taken us three months of effort, and cost half a fortune. But now we've talked 45 phones out of power, and can reveal the best (and worst) talk times on the market.

Methodology
Every phone was placed on a set spot, and used to call another mobile phone in the office. A little music in each end represented the conversation. As soon as the test phone was out of battery and hung up the conversation, the call register on the phone in the other end was used to tell how long the conversation lasted.

We've separated the results achieved in the GSM network and the UMTS network. These results cannot be compared, since their coverage in the test area might vary.

Some phones were used in a short periode before the test, which might have a marginal effect on the battery capacity. There will also be some natural variation in coverage from day to day.

The test was commenced in Bergen, Norway with SIM cards from Telenor Mobil.

NB: The results have been grouped together for easier reading. The exact numbers can be found in the data table on the next page.
