Side 1: Sony Ericsson K610

Sony Ericsson åpner 3GSM i Barcelona med to nye telefoner. En av dem heter K610, og er Sony Ericssons minste 3G-telefon til nå. Designmessig ligner K610 veldig på de tidligere modellene T610 og T630, og med en størrelse på 10,2 x 4,52 x 1,69 cm og en vekt på lave 92 gram er K610 også identisk forgjengerne i størrelse. Dette er svært bra tatt i betraktning at K610er en 3G-telefon, og at 3G-telefoner som oftest har vært et hestehode større enn vanlige GSM-telefoner.

K610 kan selvsagt brukes som videotelefon, og har et VGA-kamera på forsiden som både kan brukes til videosamtale og stillbildekamera. Kameraet på baksiden kan ta bilder i en oppløsning på to megapiksler, og har i tillegg 2x digital zoom og blits.

K610 har også innebygd mp3-spiller, som støtter samtlige av de mest populære formatene som mp3, aac og aac+. For å kunne bruke spilleren fullt ut har telefonen også fått plass til minnekort, slik at minnet kan utvides til å lagre større mengder musikk. Minnekorttypen som støttes er den nye standarden Memory Stick Micro, som kan fås i størrelser på opptil 1GB.

Skjermen på K610 er av typen TFT og har en fysisk størrelse på 1,9 tommer. Oppløsningen er på 176 x 220 punkter, som er den samme som på Sony Ericsson K750i, og fargedybden er på standard 262 000 farger.

Mangler EDGE
Som nevnt innledningsvis, så er K610 en vaskekte 3G-telefon med støtte for UMTS-frekvensen på 2100 MHz. Dessverre har ikke telefonen støtte for EDGE, slik at du ikke kan surfe i høye hastigheter også i GSM-nettet. K610 kan altså ikke diske opp med noe mer enn vanlig GPRS klasse 10, som tilbyr kun 1/8 av hastigheten til 3G.

Til tross for mangel på EDGE, så har K610 en rekke godsaker som gjør 3G-støtten svært nyttig. For eksempel følger det med en egen html-nettleser med telefonen, samt støtte for lesing av RSS-kode. Det betyr i praksis at du kan bruke K610 til å surfe på samme måte som med en helt vanlig datamaskin, og abonnere på nyheter fra bestemte nettsider via RSS.

Ellers har K610 en omfattende epost-støtte. Telefonen støtter vanlig POP3 og IMAP i tillegg til push-epost.

Den lille størrelsen til K610 medfører dessverre sine ulemper. K610 har en taletid på 2,5 timer i 3G-nettet, som kun er en-fjerdedel av det en vanlig GSM-teleofn som K750i klarer. Om du derimot bruker telefonen i GSM-nettet, kan du skravle i hele 7 timer før telefonen sier takk for seg.

Sony Ericsson K610 er ventet i andre kvartal i år. Prisen er fortsatt usikker. Vi kommer tilbake med mer informasjon og en sniktitt på telefonen i løpet av de neste dagene.

UMTS mobile delivers performance for work and leisure all in the size and weight of a 2G phone

3GSM Congress, Barcelona, 13th Feb 2006 – Sony Ericsson today announces the K610, a slim, lightweight and affordable UMTS imaging phone that opens up the world of 3G for a much wider population. Just 17mm thick and weighing 92 grams, the K610 is the size and weight of a typical 2G stick phone and will be one of the smallest and lightest 3G phones to come on the market. It packs into its slender frame a suite of advanced communications, business and entertainment applications plus a 2 Megapixel camera, Memory Stick removable storage and Bluetooth connectivity.

The K610’s pure lines combine with a solid, quality feel to make it a pleasure to hold and use. It is also incredibly practical and easy to use, with bright illumination plus large keypad and 262K colour display.

UMTS connectivity and a 2 Megapixel camera makes the K610 an ideal tool to shoot images and share them instantly – whether for business or pleasure. Creating a photoblog is easily done by just adding text to images and posting them to the Internet, or images can be quickly sent by email or MMS.

High speed email, web access and a range of business-friendly applications make the K610 the ideal partner for the productive mobile office. Standard push e-mail support (P-IMAP) sends messages direct to the phone without having to download them, and a flight mode allows users to work offline.

The phone’s practical use as a business tool is further strengthened by a comprehensive connectivity suite that keeps the user always in touch. UMTS is supplemented by Bluetooth, Infrared, USB 2.0 mass storage and Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) support,. USB 2.0 can be used to synchronise with Microsoft Outlook to ensure calendar and contacts are always up-to-date the handset.

Browsing the Internet on the K610 is a graphic-rich experience that is very similar to using a PC, thanks to the NetFront™ browser. HTML pages are presented in full with photos, video, words and graphics adapted to fit the 1.9” colour display, making it easy to scroll, browse and follow links between sites. New support for RSS Feeds allows users to subscribe to news services to receive updates direct to the phone.

The K610’s integrated music player makes listening to music on the move simple. Music files can be stored on Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™), which can be expanded to 1GB, It is easy to create and manage playlists and supplied software handles transfer of music files between the user’s PC and the phone. The player delivers a top notch listening experience, helped along by the phone’s high quality stereo headphones and built-in equaliser.

The Sony Ericsson K610 is a Dual Mode UMTS handset commercially available in Evening Red and Urban Silver colours and starts shipping during Q2 2006.
